I designed the XENOX with a traditional airframe, main wing and distinct tail, but shaped the form with an edgy style and graphics. I wanted to create an affordable, entry level, M.A.S.C. R/C plane.
I carefully shaped the wing with an "under cambered" airfoil for the most efficient performance. This "under cambered" airfoil is derived from the natural wing shape of Hawks and Eagles, and is used in expensive high performance gliders. The wing shape is curved opposite the shape of the upper wing surface, creating a very high "Lift to Drag" ratio; making XENOX very efficient at creating lift. And with its upturned wingtips, it's easy to control in banks and turns.
Atypical of entry level R/C planes, I wanted my XENOX design to take full advantage of "Thermals"; rising pockets of warmer air currents. Eagles and Hawks glide on thermals high in the sky when they are soaring and not flapping their wings. I designed it to circle into a thermal and quickly gain "free" altitude, saving motors and battery. Flying thermals with the M.A.S.C. controller is lots of fun!
