    True Classic

This is a great kit that I rebuilt from my youth that is just as fun today as it was 20 years ago. My kids love it and I let them chose where to put the several customizable decals that come with the kit. I recently discovered that the “skull & crossbones” parachute is availalbe for sale from Estes and purchased a few and now this is truly a classic reprensentation of years past. I have launched several times now and it does not skip a beat!

    Great classic kit!

This bird is always fun to fly! and if you combine it with their body tube pack (303089) you could make the extended Der Big Red Max. if you like smaller birds, go for the MIni Red Max. Either way, you will not be disappointed with the quality of this kit.

One of the best rockets estes makes

This is one of my favorite rockets of all time. It is simple to build and paint and always gets attention when you fly it. It is a very stable design and modifies easily. I have built five of them with motor configurations of D, 2 C’s, 3 C’s, and even a two stage version. The hardest part is the decals. Be sure to place the upper launch lug where shown in the instructions so that it does not interfere with the wrap decal. The decals will not tear and will go on easier if you first paint them with Decal Film from Micro-sol. It makes them thicker and easier to work with.

I had this Rocket in my collection of Estes model rockets, back in the day in the mid 1970’S. Her performance was second to none!

I had this rocket back in the day, and it was a vital asset to my collection of Estes Model Rockets in the mid 1970’s.

    Good Flyng Rocket

We bought “Der Max” and painted it green. Simply axed the “Red” from the decals. This rocket is far and away the best flyer of the 5 rocket fleet we currently play with. It was an easy build. If there is any detraction at all, it is that the chute is a little large IMHO. The thing floats down very slowly. Great for chasing and hand catching, not so good with the winds we typically have. Still, our field is ~ 100 yards X 300 yards and we have recovered it within bounds every flight.

Here is a tip for the model builders. Hit the local auto store for “Dupli Color Perfrect Match” auto paint. There are lots of color choices and lots of metalics which look really good. The paints dry quickly, so your only an hour or so from paint to fly in most cases. Beats the heck out of the dry time on most of the hardware store paints (Krylon, Rustoleum, etc). Especially good if you are doing a multi-color job.

    Der Red Max Rocket

I was glad to get and build My Red Max rocket, it was simple, and Intstructions were thorough. My rocket turned out very excellent. My disappointments came when the decals included in the kit, didnt match the cover card pics, and the parachute was supposed to be this neat black one with the jolly-roger skull and cross bones on it, but inside was a very bland pale red chute, with a small card enclosed with an apology, and some excuse about government regulaions pertaining to the printing of plastic parahutes, Sad, because my son was looking forward to the pirate looking P’chute. I have since ordered a few of the nice Checkerboard printed parachutes to replace that ugly substituted one. I was also disappointed that this rocket was scaled down to a C-engine, I remember this rocket from my own schooldays, and it , along with the very Cool ‘Goblin’ rocket were the BEST of the D-engined, Large tube / Short bodied rockets there were. LIke to see some of the older designs brought back Afterall, thats were Estes got going in the firstplace, Since there are limited rockets of any character, in the Estes line these dyas, I have been shopping with other Rocket makers
