This was my first rocket ever back in the early 80’s. Still one of my favorites. I loved the decals! A very solid flier!

  2. Rocket Guru

Great rocket for up powering and up, or down scaling. The BT-60 will accept up to a 38mm motor, but I wouldn’t go any larger than a 29mm motor, with a slotted BT-60 tube and through tube fins and install an ejection baffle, to keep the parachute from melting. Clustering 3x18mm motors, for more smoke and fire, is the best combo, for Der Red Max and 3x the altitude. For real small fields install clustered 7x13mm motors, with no less than 2xA10-3’s, giving you almost a break neck launch speed. I scrap built mine and every serious model rocketeer should own one.

A MUST have! I have SEVERAL! Substitute a full length body tube (BT60) and make a Big Der Red Max!

  4. mark Benvenuto

    A great demonstration rocket

Classic rocket that’s LOTS of fun

The Der Red Max is probably one of my favorite Estes rockets ever. I cloned one a few years before the re-release of this version and I’m so glad they brought it back. The easy build, combined with it’s great flights, and the fun decor all make it a real crowd pleaser, both in the air and on the pad.

    Great rocket!

This is a MUST have!! I built this rocket almost 30 years ago and was a staple of my collection. Can’t wait to build this again…Great rocket!

  7. John

    Fun to build and fly

This is one of those rockets you just have to have. Easy to build and a plastic nose cone, and the goofy/intimidating decals make this bad boy look great.

  8. Gregory

    Classic must have

Everyone should have one in their fleet. A very iconic rocket that has stood the test of time. Looks cool very reliable flights.

  9. Collin
