The Estes Mongoose is the perfect first time building and flying experience for a newbie who wants to try their hand at flying a two stage rocket.

A two stage rocket has two sections of the rocket with the engines stacked or staged one on top of the other. The lower or first stage contains a booster engine that kicks the rocket off the launch pad, and the upper or second stage has a standard engine inserted into it for extreme flight altitude.

Recovery is usually by parachute or streamer. The action is always hot when flying a staged rocket! The Mongoose can be flown as a single stage rocket or add a booster engine and watch this beast soar to astonishing heights of over 1,800 feet.

Standing over 26 inches tall, this high-flying rocket will descend back to earth on a colorful 12 inch parachute.

It’s like seeing an old friend after a face lift…..

A month ago, I was at the hobby shop and saw the Mongoose on the shelf. I said “Wow….that rocket looks familiar, like an old friend”. Then when I got it home, it struck me. This rocket is a shout out to the old Scorpion that I used to fly when I was a kid. Great rocket, great to see this old design still flying high.

    Easy to Build

My daughter built this rocket when she was 10 (with a little help from me). It is very easy to make a nice looking rocket without having to paint this kit. It flew great, but the booster fell straight down for some reason and got a crushed tube when it hit. It still flies as a single-stage rocket.

I’m no newbie to model rockets, but when I saw this, my eyes lit up. My brother is a rocket newbie, and his eyes lit up. It is a really fun build, and it is a wicked sweet flyer.

The Mongoose flies very high and straight. We had a non-windy day and tracking the rocket was easy. It goes VERY high, so be prepared!
