Description

(Formerly Skill Level 4)
The exquisitely engineered Astron Explorer is a model that you’ll want to add to your collection of Estes rockets. First, this kit will test your crafting skills. Then, using the same laws of physics that have launched man to the moon and now NASA’s InSight Lander to Mars, you’ll send your Astron Explorer skyward — to well over 1,000 feet with an Estes E12-4 engine (sold separately). The intricate design of this rocket features side-pods with ejection gas duct vents. The kit also includes a jig for perfect alignment. The Astron Explorer will spur your imagination and bring out your inner-interplanetary adventurer.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BUILD: Scissors, pencil, ruler, fine sandpaper, carpenter’s glue, plastic cement, hobby knife, masking tape, primer (white), paint (blue, white) and clear coat (optional). (Tools, construction and finishing supplies not included.)
WHAT YOU NEED TO LAUNCH (sold separately): Estes Porta-Pad II Launch Pad and E Launch Controller, Estes model rocket engines, starters and recovery wadding. Four 1.5V high quality AA alkaline batteries are also required for launch controller (not included).
WARNING
Rocket Guru –
The Estes Astron Explorer reminds me of an older kit from Estes called The Astron Trident, was 31.6 inches long and 18mm motor powered. The Aston Explorer looks more aerodynamic with more detailed nose cone and up powered to 24mm, nice touch Estes, although I would upgrade the motor retainer to their screw type and extend the motor tube. Love the ducting ejection baffles.

Just completed my Astron Explorer was fun & challenging build. Instructions were excellent. Building jigs worked perfect, model aligned correctly. Paint & decals complete the rocket!!!
Launched rocket-flew height and straight, recovery system (channeling ejection gas out & back in) worked terrific.
To anyone who wants something different and great flying rocket to a look at Astron Explorer!
