    My question is this: How can the thrust duration be 0.8 seconds when the total impulse is 2.5 newton-seconds and the average thrust is 10 newtons? The duration in seconds must be one tenth the total impulse in newtons-seconds for the average thrust to be 10 newtons.

      The thrust duration given by Estes in the A10 engine specifications relates to the duration of the total thrust that includes the peak and sustain parts of the thrust curve. The start and end points of the thrust curve, according to NAR specifications, are at 5% of the measured peak thrust. This system of measurement works for most Estes engines because the sustain part of the thrust curve gives a very significant percentage of the total thrust. The A10 engine, however, is a core burner where the sustain portion of the thrust curve gives a tiny percentage of the total thrust and considerably extends the engine’s measured burn time according to NAR specifications. Thus a more realistic measure of the A10’s performance is to only consider the part of the thrust curve before the sustain period and ignore the rest.

    I like how these engines are plugged so you can put them in cars or gliders. I wish they made different sizes though.
