Officially it is the LAMPMU, the Low Altitude Mars Personal Maneuvering Unit. But no one calls it that. From the first Mars Expedition of 2035 to launch fields here on Earth, it is simply known as The Leaper™. Designed as a rapid transport system between Martian surface habitats, this futuristic jetpack quickly became something more. It became fun. Pure, gravity defying fun.
The Destination Mars™ Leaper™ captures that same spirit of innovation and adventure in a model rocket unlike anything you have flown before. Why settle for ordinary when you can leap?
No Glue. No Paint. Just Pure Launch Excitement.
Built from rugged EPP foam and prefinished for a clean, mission ready look, the Leaper is engineered for quick setup and repeat flights. There is no gluing, no sanding, and no painting required. Simply insert the stabilizer rods and you are ready for the launch pad in minutes.
This beginner level rocket is ideal for new rocketeers who want something different, as well as seasoned fliers looking to add a unique spacecraft to their fleet. It is lightweight, durable, and designed to handle flight after flight.
Low Altitude Flights, Big Time Fun
Powered by recommended Estes A10 engines, including the A10-PT or A10-0T, the Leaper reaches heights up to 75 feet. That is high enough to impress your friends and family, yet low enough to easily track from liftoff to landing. Its modest altitude makes it a fantastic choice for smaller flying fields and neighborhood launch sites.
Engine installation is simple. There is no engine hook. Just wrap a few layers of masking tape around the engine for a secure friction fit, slide it into place, and you are ready for countdown.
Featherweight Recovery. Upright Landing.
At apogee, the engine ejection shifts the center of gravity, allowing the Leaper to right itself and descend gently. There is no parachute or streamer needed. Instead, it lands upright on its tripod legs, just like a true Mars survey vehicle touching down on the Red Planet.
The result is a recovery system that is simple, reliable, and incredibly cool to watch. One moment it is leaping skyward, the next it is standing tall and ready for its next mission. Mars survey complete. Prep it, load it, and leap again.
Destination Mars Awaits
With a length of 7.7 inches, a slim 0.54 inch diameter, and a launch rod size of 1/8 inch, the Destination Mars™ Leaper™ is compact, lightweight, and easy to transport. Pair it with the Porta-Pad II launch pad and your favorite Estes launch controller to complete your Mars mission experience.
If you are building out your Destination Mars collection or simply looking for a rocket that stands out on the pad, the Leaper delivers a launch experience that is fun, futuristic, and totally unforgettable. Suit up, start the countdown, and ask yourself the only question that matters. Why walk when you can leap?
